Language Rules: the DNA of Communication. Why learn them?

Language Rules: the DNA of Communication. Why learn them?

Language rules help the speakers of the language understand each other.

Language enables humans to transfer complex thoughts from one mind to another. It is indeed the best app to share ideas ever invented! Should we learn to program it?

Humans are, to a large extent, programmed for language. We all develop communication skills at a young age and unconsciously know how to use language. But learning some rules can help us share ideas more successfully, especially in writing. The written word, which was born from speech, has its own set of features and becoming a good writer requires time and effort. But it also allows us to communicate through time and space!

A Window onto the World

Knowing about our language helps us better understand our world. Language is a sort of game master piecing together the puzzle of reality in its own idiosyncratic way, that is, particular to our culture. As we add linguistic and symbolic tools (more concepts and ideas) to our toolbox, we are better equipped to understand our own world and the worlds of others.

Success at Work

Expressing yourself clearly in a job application may mark the difference between landing the job or being set aside. And once there, many daily tasks require using effective language, from following instructions, to sharing ideas with colleagues, or closing a deal with a client.

Access to Diverse Disciplines

Language is a fundamental tool when trying to understand and communicate specialized information. Whether it's about technical information in a scientific report, the running commentary of an event from a sportscaster, the dialogue and details in a movie script, or programming instructions for a videogame, language is always present.

Benefits from a Creative Relationship

Language is used in a wide variety of creative applications: ads, sports chants, lullabies, plays, lyrics... Language processes our emotional and physical stimuli to make the most of our creative experiences.
